However, this industrial growth has never affected The Valley’s ability to maintain its rich history and strong character, which enables it to offer the best in urban sophistication and country living. Furthermore, the area is constantly renewing itself to keep in step with the changing world.

In addition to its booming economic climate, The Valley offers progressive school systems, a wide range of housing options, low crime rates, rising household incomes, wide-open spaces, and both land and buildings for clean, progressive development. The Valley also boasts a versatile workforce comprised of blue collar workers, skilled tradespeople, and white collar professionals.

Dining
There’s much to see and do in The Valley. Whether you seek a new culinary experience or wish to revisit an old favorite, the area offers numerous restaurant options ranging from Italian to Latin American; fresh-food delis to fast-food chains. For wine connoisseurs, The Valley is home to the charming Jones Winery located in Shelton, which boasts a wonderful selection of traditional grape and specialty fruit wines harvested in the farm’s vineyard, along with a tasting room located in Jones’ historic dairy barn.

History

Arts & Culture
Arts and culture abound in The Valley. The Valley Arts Council holds special art exhibits and events throughout the year, showcasing the eclectic talents of local artists.

The Valley is also home to a variety of art galleries and antique shops. Downtown Seymour hosts a wide variety of galleries, shops, and boutiques, and on the first Saturday of each month, many stay open late for shopping, lectures, and other events.

If you’re looking to further expand your cultural horizons, look no further than Derby center for ballroom dance lessons or classes in fine culinary cuisine. And Shelton, boasts quality plays and musicals at Center Stage, which also offers a youth theater camp in the summer.

Parks & Recreation
Nature lovers can take a stroll on the Derby Greenway, a 1.7 mile walking trail that runs from Ansonia to Shelton town lines, along the Naugatuck and Housatonic Rivers; or if you prefer a scenic hike through some of the most magnificent parks in the state. In addition to hiking trails, the parks offer camping, boating, fishing, and picnicking in peaceful wooded surroundings. Fishing, sailing, waterskiing, and swimming are also available at various locations along the Housatonic and Naugatuck Rivers.

For a delightful outing, The Valley towns offer a myriad of summer concerts, country fairs, festivals, parades and annual celebrations including the Ansonia Harvest Festival, Beacon Falls Duck Race and Seymour’s Pumpkin Festival.

Community Giving
There’s a strong spirit of volunteerism which are available through a variety of avenues including non-profits, healthcare organizations, civic groups and other worthy causes. One such facility that offers vast opportunities for volunteers is Griffin Hospital. Located in Derby, Griffin offers the warm personalized care that can only be found in a Planetree setting. In addition to quality of care, Griffin recently opened a state-of-the-art Cancer Center.
